Stepping out of my comfort zone was a courageous choice.

Stepping out of my comfort zone was a courageous choice.

Born and raised in Pune, India, I was a dentist. However, I was not happy in my professional life and was looking to make a change. When my then boyfriend decided to come to the US for graduate studies, I made the tough decision to leave my comfortable life in India behind. Leaving my dental career behind, I felt a surge of self-doubt as I ventured into the unknown. However, driven by personal and professional growth, I enrolled in graduate school for public health. The new country, curriculum, and job scene left me feeling like a small fish in a big pond, questioning myself constantly. Yet, I was determined to not simply follow my husband but pursue my own career. Despite skepticism from others who assumed I was sacrificing my financial and career independence and following my husband blindly, mindlessly, and passively, I was fueled by my desire to find a career I was happy in. Throughout the uncertainties, my husband became my unwavering pillar of support, encouraging me to take charge of my destiny. Today, I am proud of my journey, having grown into a resilient and accomplished individual. With my husband’s support, I embraced opportunities in the USA and found my own path. We both embarked on our life in the USA together, exemplifying our shared ambition. Together, we are building a future aligned with our dreams and values. While leaving my established dental career was difficult, it led me to discover a new purpose in public health, where I strive to make a positive impact. The challenges and sacrifices have shaped me into a stronger and more confident person. As I reflect, I am grateful for the experiences that have molded me and am excited for the limitless possibilities that lie ahead. Stepping out of my comfort zone was a courageous choice, and I am proud of the person I have become.
